10 reasons why visit Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is the capital and the largest city in Hungary. Once two cities on each coast of the Danube river, today form a modern city with both elements of tradition and aristocracy displayed on the Buda side of the city, and elements of modern architecture among the busy streets of Pest.

For me the best time to visit Budapest is in Christmas since it has one of the most beautiful Christmas festival in Europe. The whole city is covered in Christmas lights and there are food stands on each square. The whole city gives out that warm holiday feeling making you feel like home even if your miles and miles away from it. If you ever get a chance to visit Europe, or you’re already here, don’t hesitate, make the most of the upcoming Christmas season and visit Budapest.

1. Budapest Parliament

One of the most beautiful buildings in Budapest is the Parliament building. Settled on the bank of Danube river it takes your breath away from which ever angle you look at it. Take a look at the photos below and see for yourself.

2. Danube promenade

The best place to talk a walk in Budapest is certainly the Danube promenade. Next to the river cruises and small coffee shops and patiseries you can relax and enjoy the view. Not to mention the Memorial Shoes on the Danube river in honor of the people killed in World War II.

4. Bridges

Budapest is practically a city known for a good number of bridges, each built in another period of the city’s rich history. Taking a walk down the Danube river or going on a river cruise you have a chance to see each one of them, either during the day or at night when they’re all light up.

6. Great Market Hall

Since I’m all about the cooking, I recommend visiting the Great Market Hall where you can find Hungarian delicacies, delicious sweets and all kinds of tasty food. The market is set on three floors, the bottom one where you can buy fresh fish and meat, the ground floor where you can find vegetables, sweets and national products and on the first floor there are stands with souvenirs and restaurants where the sound of Hungarian national music is coming from.
