Grilled steak topped with mushroom sauce & fries

For the last few days I’ve been helping out my dad with a big job in his firm and it’s the longest time in a while that I stayed out of a kitchen. I also didn’t have time to stop by my blog and share this recipe that I’ve been keeping as a draft for some time. This is one of those recipes you get an idea to make an hour before dinner, with the ingredients you have in the fridge. Sliced or not, steak is always a delicious option when in combination with rich mushroom sauce. I’ve posted similar recipes before, but always with a different combination of spices. It’s when you make a dish for more than 10 times that you start using different spices, experiment in a way.

I’ve always liked to experiment in the kitchen. As a kid the first thing I prepared, that’s actually worth mentioning was a chocolate cake. After that I started picking up on new recipes and ideas. Now it’s like when I see an ingredient and I just know what to make of it, you know that feeling? Well I hope you’ll like this flavorful dish and give it a try, I certainly recommend it! Share what you think, any feedback is appreciated!

How to

  1. Season the sliced beef with salt, ground pepper, nutmeg, onion powder and smoked red paprika. Set aside to season.
  2. After slicing potatoes place them in ice-cold water for about an hour. Heat vegetable oil in the fryer. Dry off sliced potatoes and fry them until golden and crispy.
  3. Heat a splash of olive oil in a large sauce pan. Add finely chopped onion and pressed garlic, reduce the heat and let it simmer. Stir in sliced mushrooms and cook for about 10 min. Pour in white wine and cook until the alcohol evaporates, then stir in heavy cream, some salt, ground pepper, thyme, fresh parsley, celery and garlic powder. Cook the sauce until it reduces and all the ingredients are combined.
  4. Heat a splash of vegetable oil in a medium non-stick pan. Grill sliced beef for about 10 min until cooked all the way through. Serve beef topped with mushroom sauce and with a side of french fries.

  2. That looks amazing. I want a plate. I love mushrooms but I did not know they were supposed to be this good for me. I can give up on a few veggies I am not fond of and definitely add more mushrooms to my diet.
