Island Vir is a small Island off the coast of Croatia, situated just above Privlaka and Nin in the Zadar area. It’s a place known for a large number of tourists from Zagreb and neighbouring cities, and also an island with a big number of vacation homes built by Croatians living in the continental part of the country. It’s a calm place where you can come to relax and enjoy the sun at one of hundreds of beautiful beaches stretching all around the island.
For the last five years I’ve been going there during summer, staying for weeks and having the best of times, so the reasons why I still go there, are listed below!
1. Cheap vacation rentals
There are many websites where you can search for vacation rentals and for the island of Vir there is a large number of cheap apartments and rooms that you can rent that are right on the beach, with large courtyards or backyards where people usually grill meat and have friends over.

2. Festivals, concerts and events every summer evening
During summer, from June to September, each night is marked by an event organized by the Vir tourist department, either it’s a concert or fun themed nights for the kids in the city center, where you can also go for a drink with friends or grab something to eat from many night stands.
3. Cycling routes all over the island
Probably the best thing about the island for me is the fact that it is bike friendly, so you can cycle all around the island, and if you don’t have one there is always an option of renting one out!
4. Stunning view from the top of the island
While on a bike you can always go to the highest point of the island where the stunning view will take your breath away!
5. Breathtaking nature
Even though the island is known for a large number of vacation homes, there is still that authentic scent of pine trees spreading across the island. The best way to explore the nature is to rent out a buggy or take a bike ride to places where you just can’t drive a car.
6. Beautiful beaches and crystal blue sea
The last and the most important part of why I still go there is the countless number of incredibly beautiful beaches where you just want to relax and take in the sun in between swimming in the crystal blue sea.
If you get a chance to visit Vir, get in touch, maybe I’m there and cooking something delicious! π
