If you’re looking for a simple, yet delicious dessert, your search is over! Yogurt pie is one of my favourite simple desserts, just because it’s so easy to make and still as tasty. Don’t know if you know, but it is believed that yogurt and similar fermented milk products were discovered by accident due to poor methods of storing milk centuries, and even thousands of years ago. Actually historians attribute yogurt to people living in Central Asia 6000 B.C.. The fact that something we eat practically every day, was discovered so many years ago, leaves me baffled. So if you have a favourite yogurt recipe or a dish you just love it in, I’d love it if you shared some ideas with me in the comment section!

Enjoy & happy cooking!
Preparation: 25 min
Cook time: 30 min
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 250 g butter
- 4 egg yolks
- 50 g brown sugar
- 500 g hard flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 egg whites
- 800 ml yogurt
- 200 ml sour cream
- 6 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 150 g sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp lime juice
How to
- Place butter at room temperature in a large bowl. Add hard flour, 4 egg yolks, brown sugar, baking powder and vanilla extract. Manually mix in the ingredients until you form a firm dough.
- Butter a round or square pie tray. Divide the dough in half and spread one half of the dough across the buttered up pie tray. Cover the other half of the dough in foil and place both in the fridge for at least 45 min to rest.
- While the crust is in the fridge, preheat the oven to 190° C. Beat 4 egg whites in a medium bowl until stiff. Manually stir in yogurt, sour cream, 6 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, sugar, vanilla extract and lime juice until the ingredients are combined.
- Take out the dough in the pie tray and the one covered in foil from the fridge. Spread the yogurt mixture over the crust in the pie tray and grate the other half of the dough on top of the pie.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 30 to 40 min, until the crust is crispy and light brown. Enjoy a slice of pie or two, with friends and family!

I have never tried yogurt in a pie and it looks incredible! Would you ever serve it with a jam on the side or just as it is? 🙂

Actually I would, this version is very light and fluffy, the addition of jam would work really well! Thanks for stopping by and the inspiration! 🙂

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, my grandma used to do it, rather than to top it with rolled out dough, she would grate it over the pie! 🙂

Thank you, it is really light and not dry at all, which is the most important thing when baking pies because some may turn out dry and hard to eat, but this one is just the opposite and so simple to make!
