Grilled steak and broccoli

Hey guys! With steaks it is all about grilling them perfectly, whether you like them raw, medium raw or well done. I love organizing barbecues with friend or family. Usually we all get together at my brother’s house where we grill meat in the yard, where we can all play with his kids. Or if with friends, we go to a park near one of Zagreb’s lakes and start the grill, we bring beers and there is always that one friend who brings a guitar. Barbecue connecting people!

When grilling a steak there is always a question what’s the perfect side dish. If barbecuing with friends, we usually bring bread, fresh tomatoes and onions, maybe girls bring some salads, and when with family we also grill different vegetables. For me a great and simple side dish is grilled broccoli with balsamic reduction. It is simple, fresh and it doesn’t outshine the steak.

This is a simple dish or it seems so, it’s tricky to grill the meat the way you want it, but this dish is one of my favorite. Try it out!

Preparation: 10 min                                 Cook time: 25 min                                              Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 2 beef steaks
  • 3 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 1 tsp red paprika
  • 2 leaves of rosemary
  • salt & pepper to season

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil for the grill
  • 300 g broccoli

How to

  1. Season the steaks with 2 cloves of pressed garlic, red paprika, salt & pepper. Sprinkle beer over the steaks and place rosemary on them. Leave them in a fridge for half an hour.
  2. Turn on the grill, spread vegetable oil over the grill and grill the steaks for about 3 min on both sides to get them medium rare. Grill more if you like well done. Place broccoli on the grill and grill until soft. Remove broccoli from grill and season with salt, 1 clove of pressed garlic and pumpkin oil.
  3. In a small sauce pan bring aceto balsamico to a boil, add 1 teaspoon of honey and lower the heat. Let it simmer until thick. Spread over grilled broccoli and enjoy!

  1. I love any sort of green veggie with my steak. Grilled asparagus or kale are two of my favourites.
